This role focuses on promoting learning and growth as an emergency veterinary technician, with opportunities for advancement toward Veterinary Technician Specialist certification and coordination of care. What you can expect to do
Coordinate with nursing leadership in your hospital to identify individual and team training needs. Continuously assess Assistants and Nurses to determine competency through in-person observations and knowledge evaluations, advancing individuals within the VEG Cultivate level system. Implement VEG training programs within your hospital and act as the point person (e.g., New ER Nurse). Autonomously manage time between on-the-floor mentoring and strategic work to develop nursing care teams. Facilitate in-person training for Assistants and Nurses based on identified hospital needs, including 1:1 training and peer training opportunities. Collaborate with your network and with RND to maximize educational outreach for VEGgies and the VEG community. Work with Nursing Education to discuss program development, training objectives, and additional needs. Provide educational opportunities for the nursing team, such as webinars, labs, and workshops. Engage in self-reflection and program evaluation to modify and enhance the assistant and technician leveling program. Ensure all training content aligns with VEG’s culture, mission, and vision, and reflects up-to-date emergency medicine standards of care. Divide time with roughly 70-80% of time on direct training and 20-30% on administrative/organizational work. Assist in developing curricular materials such as PowerPoint presentations, videos, simulations, and assessments for the training program. What you need
Credentialed as a veterinary technician (CVT, RVT, LVT, LVMT) in the VEG practice location with experience in emergency medicine. A love for teaching and nurturing growth in fellow veterinary technicians and assistants. Modeling a culture of learning and ongoing professional development. Preferred: Veterinary Technician Specialist in ECC (VTS-ECC). VTS in Internal Medicine or Anesthesia with ECC experience is also preferred. Previous experience in a training role or training veterinary technicians is preferred. Ability to mentor others and give/receive feedback effectively. Flexible schedule to work with VEGgies on various shifts. Positive, upbeat attitude; adaptable to change. Commitment to VEG values and willingness to share your perspective. Ability to recognize and celebrate colleagues’ successes. Ability to coordinate training projects with multiple teams. Willingness to support newer VEG veterinarians in skills training, as requested.
