The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner is a licensed professional provider who functions in collaboration with an attending physician in various practice settings at YNHHS. They provide exceptional direct diagnostic and therapeutic patient care, cultivating a patient-centric environment that considers physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and functional needs of patients and their families. They serve as the focal professional for continuity of care within their scope of practice and specialty standards.
Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Provides assessment, triage, and management of patient/family needs, working in inpatient, outpatient, or ambulatory settings. Collaborates with physicians, conducts histories, exams, reviews tests, formulates treatment plans, and may perform procedures and prescribe medications within legal and institutional guidelines. May serve as a first or second assistant in surgeries.
Patient Education & Psychosocial Support
- Educates patients and families on care, resources, and discharge plans. Provides psychosocial support ethically and professionally.
Information Management
- Ensures proper documentation and protects patient information from unauthorized access or disclosure.
Quality Management
- Demonstrates professionalism, ethical behavior, and compliance with healthcare regulations.
Professional Development
- Engages in activities to maintain and enhance competency, serves as a resource or mentor, and may participate in research or quality improvement projects.
Qualifications Education:
Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program.
Experience:
Preferred clinical experience in the specialty, but not required. Credentialing through the Medical Staff process is necessary.
Licensure:
Active PA Certification (NCCPA), Connecticut State License, and relevant certifications (ACLS/BLS, DEA, PALS, NRP) as applicable.
Additional Information This position is outpatient/inpatient/neurovascular APP in the Neurosurgery Department, based in Greenwich. Focus on patient care, family support, and access, with responsibilities including OR support and call coverage.
