Position Summary The Nurse Midwife is accountable directly to the Director of Midwifery. This is a Full-Time position based out of our Family Health and Birth Center in NE, DC.

Highlighted Duties And Responsibilities

Manages the care of women and their newborns and provides direct client services including antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn, family planning, and gynecological care, according to the standards of the American College of Nurse-Midwives, the American Association of Birth Centers, and Community of Hope policies and clinical guidelines.

Consults with the physician regarding any client who develops symptoms of medical or obstetric complications.

Co-manages with the physician the care of women who develop complications.

Refers to medical management any woman who develops complications which, in the judgment of either or both the physician and CNM, are best managed by a physician.

Plans and provides continuing health supervision and education to all clients under care.

Completes and documents all patient encounters in a timely fashion (progress notes within 3 business days after visits).

Maintains effective working relations with the birth center staff, consulting staff, other health disciplines, families and the public.

Participates in public relations programs that publicize midwifery, advanced nursing practice and/or birth center care.

Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

Current license as a Nurse-Midwife in the District of Columbia required.

National Certification as Certified Nurse Midwife required.

Current BLS certification required.

Current neonatal resuscitation certification (NALS or NRP or equivalent) required.

Experience with hospital and out-of-hospital births; experience with 40 or more births preferred; no new grads at this time.

Participation in appropriate continuous medical education.

Bilingual in Spanish and/or Amharic preferred.

Ability to work in a non-profit environment.

Hybrid: Remote work and on-site work expectations are generally split roughly 50/50. Remote designations may change and in-person learning may be required after hire.

Salary and Benefits The salary for this position ranges between

$105k - $110k

annually; the offer amount is determined by the candidate’s education, qualifications, and experience. Benefits include remote work opportunities where applicable, paid time off, holidays, retirement plan, and professional development support.
