Staff Physician - Correctional Health Services (Float) Various Location Employed by PAGNY (Physician Affiliate Group of New York, P.C.). The Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) of New York City Health + Hospitals (H+H) seeks physicians to join our team at Rikers Island in East Elmhurst, NY. CHS delivers medical care, mental health care, and discharge planning within the jail system. This role supports an academic practice environment with opportunities for continuing education and career growth.

Base pay range $98.56/hr - $103.37/hr

Summary of Organization: CHS provides comprehensive services, including specialty housing units, 24-hour on-call psychiatric service, substance use treatment, integrated re-entry services, and collaborations with multiple training institutions.

Summary of Position CHS is seeking full-time, part-time, and per diem Physicians to join our team at Rikers Island in East Elmhurst, NY. The position offers an academic practice environment with clear pathways for career growth and engagement of frontline staff in ongoing clinical improvement. Staff physicians provide primary care to patients in jail-based clinics, perform intake evaluations and treatments, and provide emergency care with support from Emergency Medicine physicians. Physicians work as part of a care delivery team with strong administrative support, integrated nursing, and mental health services.

Responsibilities Include

Completes comprehensive histories and physicals on all new admissions

Diagnoses and treats acute and chronic illness

Evaluates the need for consult services and submits prioritized consults when indicated

Reviews on-island/off-island specialty consults and hospital returns

Evaluates consultant recommendations to ensure standard of care is met and implements them

Responds to emergencies and fire drills in a timely and professional manner

Familiar with performance indicators (P.I.) and complies with standards

Requests radiology exams, lab tests, and EKGs when indicated; interprets results in context of the patient

Notifies Urgicare for 3-hour/EMS runs

Generates medical modifications as needed

Maintains clinical competency by reviewing CHS protocols, medical literature, and CME

Provides clinical supervision for P.A.s/N.P.s, including co-signing notes and medication orders

Ensures standard of care is maintained; adheres to CHS policies and procedures

Attends mandatory in-services; complies with Employee Health requirements

Department Preferences

3 to 5 years of directly related clinical experience, including residency in a related medical specialty

Familiar with HER (Electronic Health Records)
