Overview Faculty Physician – Ophthalmologist (Cornea)

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Neurosciences is seeking a full-time, board-certified ophthalmologist with fellowship-training in Cornea and External Disease and Refractive Surgery. Responsible for providing clinical care to patients with eye diseases, infections, trauma, and other eye complications, and supporting research and education across the joint healthcare delivery system.

Responsibilities

Providing outpatient and inpatient consultations.

Conducting eye examinations.

Teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, including in inpatient and outpatient settings and classroom lectures.

Conducting clinical and translational research activities and quality improvement projects in Ophthalmology and Visual Neurosciences.

Performing eye surgeries, specialized eye treatments, and eye therapies.

Completing related administrative duties within division, department, and hospital.

Qualifications

M.D. degree or foreign equivalent; graduate of accredited ACGME Ophthalmology residency and a one-year Cornea and External Disease and Refractive Surgery fellowship.

Board eligible or board certified with American Board of Ophthalmology.

Licensed or ability to obtain Minnesota Board of Medical Practice licensure; ability to maintain DEA certification in Minnesota.

Ability to meet threshold criteria/qualifications for credentialing and privileges; experience or interest in clinical research and other scholarly activities.

Hire will be at Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank on Academic track depending upon qualifications.

About The Department The missions of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Neurosciences are teaching, research, service and provision of excellent clinical service. Primary academic missions are to teach medical students, post-M.D. trainees (residents and fellows) and students in allied health programs and to advance knowledge in ophthalmology through basic scientific and clinical research endeavors.

Lions Gift Of Sight The partnership between the Lions, the Minnesota Lions Vision Foundation, and the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Neurosciences began in 1960 with the establishment of Lions Gift of Sight. Lions Gift of Sight is a full-service eye bank focused on providing donor eye tissue for transplant, research, and teaching, and promotes donation through education. Lions Gift of Sight has helped restore sight to more than 43,000 people by providing cornea tissue for transplantation and is one of the largest and most successful eye banks in the world. It has provided more than 39,000 corneas or eyes for basic research to help advance vision science. Lions Gift of Sight provides opportunities to translate bench research into patient care to improve cornea health and outcomes for patients.

Pay And Benefits Pay Range:

This role is dually employed by the University of Minnesota and University of Minnesota Physicians. Salary at the University of Minnesota begins at $52,000. Clinical salary, aligned with clinical effort, is provided through University of Minnesota Physicians. Total salary range will be $300,000 to $370,000. Total salary is competitive with market and based on AAMC salary benchmarks.
