Senior Director, Pharmacy Retail and CHC (Boston, MA) – Boston Medical Center (BMC). Position Summary: BMCHS is an $8 billion revenue integrated academic health care system and health plan whose purpose is to provide equitable and value-based continuum of care, while transforming the outcomes of low(er) income and vulnerable populations in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and beyond. The pharmacy section of BMCHS is a broad, complex organization with multiple hospitals and health plan pharmacy service lines. BMCHS places a strong emphasis on value-based care, addressing social determinants of health, and health equity in partnership with community organizations. With 500+ FTEs and approximately $900M in revenue, the BMC hospital pharmacy department is a crucial part of both the broader hospital and system operations. The Senior Director will lead the strategic direction of initiatives for all retail and CHC pharmacies, collaborate with senior leaders, engage stakeholders, drive analyses, and advance initiatives to promote safe, effective, and efficient drug therapy and patient care outcomes. Chief Pharmacy Officer Essential Responsibilities / Duties

Translates organizational goals into departmental strategic and operating goals and objectives; develops and implements short- and long-term strategies to meet objectives. Ensures pharmacy alignment with hospital and system goals focused on quality outcomes, patient experience, financial strength, people and culture, and transformation. Maintains understanding of customers’ business needs and strategy around specialty, mail order retail, CHC pharmacies, Medicaid Accountable Care Organization (MCO), health plan, PBMs, and operational excellence. Responsibilities

Builds and maintains a pipeline of new business opportunities; identifies upsell opportunities for current customers; negotiates contracts for new business opportunities and renewals. Analyzes industry trends, adopts emerging technologies, and implements best practices to elevate healthcare delivery. Continuously improves processes to optimize efficiency and productivity, supporting the organization’s goals through innovative labor and staffing models. Ensures delivery of exceptional services to improve patient experience and clinical outcomes. Oversees specialty pharmacy fulfillment and ensures compliance with payor accreditation and policies. Collaboration & Compliance

In collaboration with purchasing, operations, and specialty leadership teams, support specialty pharmacy wholesaler/distribution contract negotiations. Participate in ongoing contract pricing review with validation via wholesaler; work with revenue cycle to review negative and low-margin prescription claims and develop solutions. Collaborates with revenue cycle and other teams to ensure accurate and compliant pharmacy claim submissions. Responsible for compliance with all Federal, State and Local laws, regulations and rules; adherence to accreditation standards and organization policies. Other Responsibilities

Directs operations to meet short-term and long-range planning, budget, and strategic goals; fosters relationships with health plans and providers; supports education and advocacy in partnership with government relations. Directs quality management and quality improvement programs to ensure ongoing compliance; oversees reporting and follow-up on operational items. Sets performance goals, allocates resources, and assesses policies for senior management; participates in market development and community outreach; embraces innovative practices in technology for medication fulfillment. Education, Licensure & Experience

Education PharmD or other advanced degree in pharmacy or healthcare administration; B.S. in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy required. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid license as a pharmacist in the State of Massachusetts required upon start date. Experience Ten+ years of experience in pharmacy management required; hospital pharmacy management and academic medical center experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Demonstrates leadership for change, promotes collaboration across multidisciplinary services, strong interpersonal skills, strategic planning and contract negotiation, organizational and communication skills, and a proven track record in developing and managing people.
