Description Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent for Learning and Teaching, the Program Coordinator for Physical Education and Health will be responsible for the administration of four major areas: of instructional leadership; curriculum and instruction; supervision and evaluation of teachers; and staff development.

Responsibilities 1.

Instructional Leadership

a. Serve as an instructional advisor to teachers and administrators preK-12 in order to effectively demonstrate differentiation of instruction through the content area

b. Coordinate peer coaching and provide modeling, guidance, and other types of teacher support

c. Serve as a collaborator with the nursing department on issues of health and wellness

d. Serve as an active member on district curriculum boards

e. Participate in the Andover New Teacher Induction and Mentor Program

f. Plan and facilitate department content-based meetings at all levels

2. Curriculum and Instruction

a. Advise and assist in the design, development, implementation, and coordination, monitoring and evaluation of Physical Education and Health programs and staff to provide a continuous and articulated preK-12 program

b. .Make visitations to the schools for the purpose of analyzing and evaluating the programs

c. Lead the development, implementation, and analysis of common content assessments in each of the grade levels 3. Supervision and Evaluation of Teachers

a. Participate in the supervision of pre-professional and professional status teachers preK-12

b. Evaluate teacher performance

4. Staff Development

a. Design and facilitate formal and informal training, study groups, and other professional development opportunities modeling unit development that incorporate the content standards

b. Provide and facilitate staff development opportunities for teachers both during and after school hours by teaching demonstration lessons, conducting workshops, and other activities are required

c. Work with the administration to plan appropriate staff development programs through early release days 5. Other Administrative Responsibilities

a. Make recommendations to the principals regarding personnel within the program area

b. Participate in the hiring process (determining qualifications, screening applicants, interviewing, selecting and assigning) process of new teachers in the content area

c. Contribute to the development of content budget needs at each level

d. Prepare appropriate grant applications

e. Serve as the School Liaison to Parent-to-Parent organization

f. Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned

Qualifications Master's Degree in Physical Education or Health Education Massachusetts Certification as Supervisor/Director Minimum of three years' experience in supervision or administration preferred Minimum of five years' teaching experience Excellent leadership and communication skills Knowledge of relevant educational technologies and the ability to integrate technology in the program area

Capacity to work in a collegial setting and to set high academic and instructional expectations Demonstrations of successful teaching experience Experience in interdisciplinary curriculum, instructional design, implementation, and program evaluation Experience in curriculum development

Supplemental Information Salary :In accordance with the Andover Administrators' Association/Andover School Committee Agreement.
