Day in the Life of a Medical Assistant:

Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant Certified (CMA) will deliver exceptional patient care while handling both clinical and administrative tasks: Maintain and report medical histories, coding, and claims through Electronic Medical Records (EMR). Welcome and prepare patients for examination, including measuring vital signs: temperature, pulse, blood pressure, height, weight, and gathering medical history. Accurately document patient information such as pulse oximetry, allergies, and pain levels in EMR. Perform venipuncture and electrocardiograms as directed by a physician. Collect and label laboratory specimens, bodily fluids, and blood samples correctly. Ensure patients receive privacy, comfort, safety, and hygiene. Assist the practice physician during examinations. Communicate medical procedures to patients and provide guidance on medications and special diets as directed by the physician. Prepare and sterilize medical instruments. Keep patient exam rooms clean and ready. Assist in managing inventory and restocking supplies and equipment. Handle necessary paperwork for inventory control and review incoming orders for accuracy. Process referrals and insurance authorizations, and communicate patient information for prescriptions, lab tests, or x-rays to relevant parties. Administer vaccines and medications, including intradermal injections, as needed. Monitor and log temperatures for refrigerated vaccines and medications. Qualifications

Job Requirements: High school diploma or GED. Graduation from an accredited medical assistant/medical technologist program. Current national certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), to be maintained within three (3) months of hire. Basic knowledge of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Microsoft Office. BLS Certification. Preferred Job Requirements: Associate's degree. 1+ year of experience in a hospital or physician practice setting. Pay Range Minimum: $18.31/Hr. Rate of pay is based on experience and education and may include additional components such as differentials and call pay according to the role.
