The Quality Team is a matrix organization within Beyond Meat that is dedicated to creating food products that are leading the gold standard in plant-based proteins. They are looking for an outstanding individual to join the team located in El Segundo, CA at HQ as our Regulatory Affairs Manager. Reporting to the Director of Quality, the Regulatory Affairs Manager's primary role is to ensure that all food products manufactured meet the requirements of customers, regulatory authorities (US, CAN, EU, RoW), and internal standards for label declaration. This role will provide support in creating nutritional facts panel, claims substantiation and validation, ingredient decks, formulation suitability in country of destination (globally), proof-reading artwork, creating guidance on existing and new regulations, SOPs including FSVP, and other activities related to regulatory compliance and verification. Tasks, Duties, & General Responsibilities Develop finished product labels, including creating ingredient statements, nutrition facts panel, nutrient content, claims, copy, and other statements provided on pack for regulatory compliance. Provide input on formula development to meet claim requirements and country suitability. Lead strategic discussions with legal counsel and marketing teams to develop regulatory strategy as needed. Collaborate cross-functionally, as necessary, to assess ingredients, formulas, and claims to ensure compliance with domestic and international food regulations. Provide regulatory expertise to cross-functional teams, making regulatory decisions as required. Provide technical support in the development of substantiating and validating label claims, such as non-GMO, gluten-free, vegan, kosher and other relevant claims as needed. Ensure that packaging follows federal, state, and local regulations. This includes daily interactions with marketing, graphic design team, quality, and external stakeholders to ensure that new and revised packaging graphics and placements comply with labeling regulations. Maintain and review nutritional information for products, such as confirming appropriate calculation methods, calculating nutrient content per serving, checking rounding rules, etc. Monitor and track current FDA regulations, warning letters and trends related to food labeling, nutrition, claims and food safety. Summarize and help interpret U.S. regulations and guidance documents related to labeling, nutrition, and claims. Create and update product specifications, product certificates, and nutrition data based on analytical data. Maintain a document management system compliant with regulatory, quality, and company requirements. Develop and maintain compliance tools and resources (e.g., Netsuites, Genesis, ingredient spreadsheets, SOPs, and procedures) based on current labeling requirements. Assist the team with process improvement and data management, including working on ad hoc projects as necessary. Review consumer complaints and assist with questions related to the product as needed. Contribute to innovation and renovation projects in the area of responsibility, and ensure compliance by design of raw materials, labels, and specs in close collaboration with a cross-functional team. Provide regulatory support by researching proposed ingredients, claims, third party certifications and Marketing & Sales strategies. Review marketing materials, digital assets, and other forms of product advertising for product labeling compliance. Analyze and compile regulatory advice received from trade associations, outside counsel and other resources. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Supervisory Duties (if applicable): None Qualifications Education, Technical Skills, and/or Previous Experience: Bachelor's degree in nutrition, Food Science or related discipline required. Proficiency in FDA food labeling laws and regulations, including nutrient content claims required. Knowledge of Canadian and European labeling regulations is a plus. 5-7 years' experience in product labeling at a consumer-packaged goods company preferred. Knowledge of Food Safety Modernization Act regulations, global regulatory food law, food safety, advertising, claim substantiation and risk assessment is a plus. Positive and self-starter attitude with a strong sense of urgency. Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines. Strong ability to interpret and analyze the regulations and create practical, business-friendly solutions. Strong knowledge and applicable skill in using MS Office Products -- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and nutritional database software such as Genesis. Ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively within the team and with cross-functional partners. Solutions-oriented team player capable of working in a fast-paced environment. Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills. Work Environment This position is based on site at our HQ in El Segundo, CA five (5) days a week. Minimal travel (5-10 %)
