Shift Supervisor - Power and Recovery

Career Opportunity: The WestRock Mill in West Point, VA is currently seeking a Production Shift Supervisor for the Fiber, Power and Recovery departments combined as "Backend Operations". This position is responsible for the daily frontline leadership of Chip Storage & Handling, Three Pulping Lines, Bleach Plant, Wastewater Treatment, Two Recovery Boilers, Two Power Boilers, One Package Boiler, Two Kilns, Four Evaporator Sets, Four Turbines, Mill Compressed Air System and Mill Fresh Water Supply System to achieve maximum sustained safety excellence, environmental compliance, ensuring internal customer quality specifications are fully achieved and meeting or exceeding production goals and budgetary targets. How you will impact WestRock: Responsible for demonstrating safety leadership, maintaining safe work practices the backend operations, and promoting safety engagement with all crew members to eliminate safety incidents. Delivers environmental excellence and compliance to both the letter and the spirit of the law. Supports all environmental initiatives and programs. Responsible for the overall backend performance of the crews and equipment to ensure that a quality pulp product is supplied to the machines. Helps troubleshoot issues, coordinate supporting resources, inputs needed follow up work orders from issues on shift and provide updates to area owners of any unresolved issues during their shift. Provide leadership and coaching to shift operational crews in the Backend operations Departments. Assist with facilitating the training of each crew member to maximize operator proficiency. Initiates and supports safety, environmental, and quality incident investigations to completion. Effectively communicates production information and issues to appropriate personnel through multiple channels, especially our internal customers. Directs the shift mechanical and electrical maintenance resources. Supports planning and execution of area outages from a shift level in all departments. Responsible for maintaining housekeeping in all areas. Responsible for management of production rates based on customer and departmental needs. What you need to succeed: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (preferred) or relevant experience in a complex integrated mill. Ability to work rotating 8-hour shifts. Computer working knowledge in Outlook, Email, Acrobat Reader, Microsoft Office to include Word and Excel, PI, EKHO, with the ability to learn new applications. Working knowledge EPAM maintenance program Strong interpersonal, leadership, and motivational skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent problem solving and analytical skills and the ability to make decisions based on alarm or upset process conditions that may be critical in preventing major breakdowns. Excellent planning, organizational, time management, and prioritization skills. Ability to select and properly use personal protective equipment according to the specific hazard or hazards in accordance with Company and department requirements. Previous work experience in a unionized environment is preferred. Previous supervisory experience is preferred. Candidates are required to undergo a drug screening after receiving a conditional job offer, but before starting employment.
