Under the immediate supervision of the Patient Access Supervisor, is responsible for the assigned duties within Patient Access in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Computer System:

• Notifies known or suspected errors to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.

• Maintains and updates desk reference material.

• Demonstrates accurate and efficient use of the EMR and all computer applications as appropriate to function in the roles needed.

• Conduct routine audits of the EMR accounts to ensure accuracy, compliance and efficiency.

• Prepare, analyze and present regular reports on various aspects of patient access accounts and determine or design new processes or procedures to improve upon trends.

Work Queue Review & Resolution:

• Responsible for review of work queues in Allscripts TruBridge (CPSI) and working within the departments and Patient Access for resolution in order to resolve issues so that claims can be released timely.

• Identifying trends within the work queues and reporting them to supervisor to come up with plans and processes to help future claims.

Admitting:

• Responsible for processing all aspects of the admitting function as it relates to inpatients, day surgery patients, observation patients and other classifications of patient's level of care.

• Ensures patient information is gathered in a timely, accurate, courteous and confidential manner.

• Responsible for accurate completion of all necessary admission documentation in a timely manner, including obtaining all necessary signatures as indicated as well as generation of labels and identification bands.

Training:

• Serve as a primary resource within the EMR systems for staff to ask questions.

• Develop and conduct training programs for new hires on the effective use of the EMR systems.

• Provide ongoing training and support to existing staff for update and retraining in EMR systems based on trends.

• Cross training within multiple departments to provide support and coverage.

Communication:

• Ensures patient information is gathered in a timely, accurate, courteous and confidential manner.

• Attends meetings as directed.

• Advises Manager or Director of "Out of Ordinary" conditions which may require action or intervention.

Registration Duties:

• Performs efficient processing of outpatients and non-patient accounts in a timely, accurate, courteous and confidential manner.

• Maintains adequate supplies for the registration area.

• Provides assistance/backup for Admitting as needed.

• Accurately processes physicians who are not entered into the EMR.

• Maintains accurate patient log

• Processes documents incidental to registration appropriately.

• Assists in monitoring accuracy of outpatient registration.

• Assists Director, Manager or Supervisor with special projects and other duties as required.

• Completes daily reporting duties as needed

• Actively participates in all hospital Service Excellence initiatives and trainings

• Attends and participates in a minimum of 50% department staff meetings and signs off on review of 100% department staff meeting minutes

• Completes all required annual education on or before the due date

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the primary functions of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation, using some combination of skills and abilities and possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without a reasonable accommodation, to safely perform the essential functions of the job.

• Minimal physical effort required with occasional light lifting to a maximum of 25 pounds; stooping; and pick, pinch, type, or otherwise work primarily with fingers

• Ability to effectively manage considerable mental stress

• Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word

• Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication

• Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and convey information in a clear, concise and accurate manner

• Familiarity with computer and other business machine

Qualifications:

Prior experience in healthcare related institution and demonstrated computer skills preferred. Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Ability to be very detailed oriented.
