Job Description

We are searching for a Histology Assistant -- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will provide administrative and technical support the surgical pathology and histology operation.

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required OR

One year of post high school education in a college or technical program for laboratory science required

1 year experience in a laboratory setting required

One year of post high school education in a college or technical program for laboratory science may be substituted for the one year of required experience in a laboratory setting

Responsibilities:

Validates specimen identification and appropriateness of sample type and size and prioritizes workload according to handling protocols defined in section manuals within the established turnaround times Performs required quality control procedures according to the written guidelines in the section procedure manuals as documented on QC log sheets Performs daily maintenance and calibration procedures to ensure proper functioning of instruments Maintains files for special stain and immunohistochemistry request sheets and for AP study sheets and maintains filing systems for blocks and slides Performs mandated reading assignments and reviews and signs off on procedure manuals, communication logs, and memorandums in a timely manner Participates in proficiency testing programs to validate instruments and competency
