Primary Purpose: Your leadership sets up our students for safety and success! As a Navarro ISD Head Custodian you'll establish and follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.

Qualifications: Education/Certification:

High School or Vocational School Diploma or completion of sufficient education to successfully perform the duties of the position. Valid and current Texas Driver's License Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to understand and execute detailed written and oral instructions Knowledge of cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures Ability to perform minor repairs Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Bilingual Spanish/English preferred Experience:

Experience in custodial service required. Experience in supervision preferred. Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Custodial Management

Assign work schedules to campus custodians and oversee completion according to district standards. Assist in scheduling substitutes and floating custodian assignments as needed. Maintain records relating to employees' time, performance and overtime. Oversee minor maintenance work performed by custodial staff. Train custodians regarding professional trade skills and safety awareness. Prepare written performance inspections of custodians. Cleaning

Implement and maintain established cleaning schedules including emptying waste and cleaning floors, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms. Keep school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas, neat and clean. Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash. Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and order additional supplies as needed. Maintenance and Repair

Make minor building repairs as needed and report needed major repair to supervisor. Ensure shrubs, lawns and flower beds are trimmed clean and safe. Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity. Schedule preventative maintenance for heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment, including quarterly air filter changes, fan motors and belts. Assist in setting up facilities for regular and special events and move furniture or equipment within building as directed by principal. Meet with principals and custodians to provide reports on building needs and conditions. Work with school principals or designees to prepare and submit work orders. Safety

Assume responsibility for opening and closing building each school day. Check daily to ensure all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during hours of building occupancy. Ensure procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities are followed. Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency. Respond to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, alarms) for the purpose of taking appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues and maintaining a functioning educational environment. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor. Ensure custodial team complies with school district's chemical hygiene program and follows MSDS sheets. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Other

Complete required district professional development and additional training as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: Monitor the work and issue work assignments to building custodians.
