The Managing Director serves as the lead strategist, ambassador, and operational head of IMAN’s work in Atlanta. This dynamic and mission-driven leader will be responsible for guiding local programming, building strategic partnerships, developing talent, and ensuring operational excellence in alignment with IMAN’s holistic model and national vision.
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and collaborative leader with a passion for social justice, deep experience managing people and programs, a strong understanding of Atlanta’s community landscape, and the ability to effectively represent IMAN with a wide range of stakeholders including government agencies, funders, and grassroots partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operations and long-term planning of IMAN’s Atlanta office.
- Align local initiatives with IMAN’s national mission, vision, and values.
- Partner with the Chicago Executive Office to ensure integrated growth and organizational consistency.
- Oversee internal systems, legal and regulatory compliance, and annual goal-setting processes.
- Provide regular strategic updates to the national executive team and contribute to broader organizational planning.
Program Oversight & Performance Evaluation
- Oversee program implementation across IMAN Atlanta’s core focus areas: health & wellness, arts & culture, organizing & advocacy, and Green ReEntry.
- Establish and monitor performance metrics to assess program effectiveness and impact.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and data-informed decision-making.
- Ensure high program quality while adapting strategies to meet evolving local community needs.
- Lead cross-functional coordination among program teams to ensure holistic service delivery.
Fundraising, Development & Communications
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with local and regional funders, institutional partners, and major donors.
- Collaborate with national Development and Communications teams on grant writing, reporting, and donor stewardship.
- Represent IMAN in public forums, panels, media engagements, and community convenings.
- Support local storytelling and communications efforts to amplify IMAN’s impact in Atlanta.
- Work proactively to identify and pursue new funding opportunities, including government and corporate partnerships.
Staff, Volunteer & Talent Development
- Build and manage a high-performing, mission-aligned team.
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, and supervision of staff and volunteers.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and value-driven workplace culture.
- Provide regular coaching, leadership development, and performance feedback.
- Navigate sensitive issues and manage conflict resolution as needed.
- Promote professional development and career pathways for emerging leaders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Social Work, Community Development, Education, Public Health, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience, including at least 5 years managing teams, programs, and operations in a nonprofit, public sector, or mission-driven setting.
- Proven track record of program development and oversight across multiple service areas with measurable impact.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising and development, including securing grants, cultivating donor relationships, and working with institutional funders.
- Strong organizational and operational management skills, including budgeting, compliance, and systems development.
- Deep knowledge of and connection to the Atlanta socio-political and cultural landscape, especially communities impacted by systemic injustice.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in areas such as Nonprofit Management, Public Policy, Business Administration (MBA), or a related field.
- Background in organizational strategy, change management, or systems-level leadership.
- Bilingual proficiency or cultural competency working with multilingual communities.
- Demonstrated passion for faith-inspired, community-based social justice work.
