Summary

This position collaborates with a physician to develop an anesthesia care plan. Provides IV sedation, monitored anesthesia care, or administers general, regional, or local anesthesia for various procedures. Monitors patients accurately and performs CPR, ventilation, or life support during emergencies. Manages patients' physiological condition under anesthesia and initiates corrective actions as necessary or directed by a physician. Assists with other departmental duties as requested by the Manager of Anesthesiology.

Responsibilities

  1. Perform pre-anesthetic evaluation and preparation.
  2. Prepare the OR suite for all types of anesthesia.
  3. Administer, manage, and monitor anesthesia care during induction, maintenance, and emergence.
  4. Provide post-anesthesia care and evaluation.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety precautions for anesthesia care.
  • Identify opportunities to improve quality and operational efficiency.
  • Provide clinical support to other departments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Certifications and Licensures

  • Credential: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support). Experience: Within 12 months of hire or transfer.
  • Credential: BLS (Basic Life Support). Experience: Within 3 months of hire or transfer.
  • Credential: CRNA (Certified RN Anesthetist). Experience: Required. Source: Member Council on Re Certification of Nurse Anesthesiology.
  • Credential: NBCRNA (National Board CRNA). Experience: Required.

Required Education

Master's degree in nursing with specialization in anesthesia. Equivalent experience includes completing an accredited nurse anesthesia program culminating in certification and licensure in Michigan, or in the process of completing coursework and awaiting board eligibility.

Other Information

  • Strong written, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perform basic and advanced anesthesia skills, including venipuncture, arterial line insertion, medication calculations, sterile technique, airway maintenance, and regional anesthetic administration.
  • Compliance with policies, proficiency in Microsoft Windows, and PALS certification preferred.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Ability to handle stressful situations involving trauma, grief, and death.
  • Ability to wear PPE, move freely, and perform job functions.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and postural changes.
  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, with adherence to safety protocols.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, and maintain attendance.
  • Physical demand level: Light, with occasional lifting of 11-20 lbs.
