Charleston Collegiate School is hiring: Part-Time Janitor in Columbia

Position Summary:
The Part-Time Janitor plays a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position is responsible for performing general cleaning and light maintenance duties across campus facilities, ensuring classrooms, restrooms, and common spaces are well maintained. The Janitor will typically work during non-school hours to prepare the campus for the next day's activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform routine cleaning of classrooms, restrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and sanitize surfaces throughout the school.
• Empty trash and recycling bins and replace liners.
• Clean and restock restrooms, ensuring adequate supplies of soap, paper towels, and tissue.
• Clean windows, mirrors, doors, and other glass surfaces.
• Maintain floors and carpets by spot cleaning spills and addressing debris promptly.
• Assist with light maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs and reporting needed repairs to the Facilities Manager.
• Secure classrooms, offices, and buildings after cleaning, ensuring all doors and windows are locked.
• Maintain janitorial equipment and supplies, notifying supervisors when inventory needs replenishment.
• Follow safety procedures, including using appropriate signage and handling cleaning chemicals properly.
• Support occasional event setup, breakdown, or cleanup as needed.

Skills and Requirements:

• Prior experience as a Janitor, Custodian, or similar role in a school or institutional setting preferred.
• Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Professional demeanor and respect for a school environment.
• Reliability and consistency in attendance and work quality.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• Continually required to stand and walk.
• Frequently required to bend, stoop, kneel, and use hand and finger dexterity.
• Frequently required to lift/push/carry items up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
• Occasionally required to lift/push/carry items up to fifty (50) pounds.
• May work outdoors when cleaning entrances or moving between buildings.
• Occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals and various weather conditions.
