Job Description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant to join our team full-time. This position is responsible for overseeing the financial management of large-scale, multi-million-dollar projects from inception through completion. The Project Accountant ensures accurate contract setup, billing, job cost tracking, and compliance with client and company standards, including AIA billing requirements. This role serves as a key liaison between project management and accounting teams, supporting financial accuracy and project profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and interpret contract terms to establish proper project accounting structures and ensure compliance with billing and reporting requirements.
- Prepare and process project invoices, including AIA billing, time and materials, and milestone billings.
- Track and reconcile job costs, verifying alignment with budgets, forecasts, and contract provisions.
- Maintain detailed records of project expenditures, commitments, change orders, and revenue recognition.
- Monitor accounts receivable, manage collections, and collaborate with clients to resolve billing or payment issues.
- Support project managers with budget analysis, financial reporting, and variance explanations.
- Assist with month-end close processes, including accruals, revenue adjustments, and project reconciliations.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of all financial documentation related to assigned projects.
- Partner with internal teams to streamline accounting processes and improve financial visibility across projects.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
- 3-5 years of experience in project accounting, job cost accounting, or construction/contract billing.
- Demonstrated experience with AIA billing and complex project financial management.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting principles, and contract compliance.
- Proficiency in accounting and ERP systems; strong Excel skills required.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities with a high level of accuracy.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external clients.
