Position: Dental Assistant (EDDA) – Westside Dental Clinic / Outpatient Medical Center
Overview
Provide quality care and services to patients by assisting dentists and other staff in a variety of patient care, office and laboratory duties. Ensure the efficiency and productivity of patient flow through timely, accurate, and professional preparation of patients and patient information, including taking and processing x-rays. Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills are highly preferred. Willingness to learn and team-oriented mentality is required. Actions and decisions must be consistent with Inner City Health's mission statement.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Ensure all patients have a positive experience and are treated with care and compassion.
- Manage and maintain patient records and related documents in a timely, accurate manner in compliance with HIPAA and related regulations.
- Enter patient services accurately to promote favorable billing and collection outcomes.
- Ensure tasks related to patient care, administrative processes, and related duties comply with regulatory and accreditation standards, as well as clinic policies and procedures.
- Develop favorable relationships with patients and educate patients and family members on general oral health care and post-treatment care as appropriate.
- Establish positive working relationships with all staff members.
- Uphold and represent the organization’s values and mission in a professional manner at all times.
- Adhere to organizational policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
- Prepare and maintain dental instruments, materials, and equipment.
- Collect and record patient health histories (dental and medical) and provide information for the dentist’s reference prior to examination.
- Help patients feel comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment.
- Take and process x-rays.
- Assist the dentist chair-side by organizing and preparing instruments and supporting procedures as needed.
- Advise patients on oral hygiene and dental care.
- Follow through with post-visit duties.
- Provide relief and support to Direct Patient Care Staff and perform office duties as requested.
- Interact positively with a diverse patient population and adapt communication to patient needs.
- Demonstrate commitment to the organization’s mission and promote dental health.
- Read, write, and maintain patient records and related administrative documentation.
- Utilize applicable tools, systems, and equipment for patient data collection and records management.
- Demonstrate knowledge of dentistry procedures, infection control, instrument cleaning, sterilization, tray setup, and materials.
Essential Functions Of An Expanded Duties Dental Assistant (EDDA)
- Restore fillings.
- Pack gingival retraction cord.
Education And/or Experience
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of dental assistant licensing or more than 3 years of dental assisting experience.
- Radiation safety certification or completion of a radiation safety course.
Experience
- Demonstrated ability to think clearly and adapt as needed, work independently, prioritize, and solve problems.
- Strong organizational skills and computer proficiency (scheduling, word processing, typing).
- Experience providing patient care within the defined scope of practice and handling difficult customer situations.
- Knowledge of dental practices and procedures; familiarity with dental care devices and equipment.
Physical Requirements
Normal office and clinical environment with standard safety precautions. Requires sitting, standing, bending/stooping, computer use for extended periods, and lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision. Frequent walking in the clinic and occasional stairs. Reasonable accommodation available for qualified candidates.
