Overview

Smiles at Lakewood Ranch is looking for a Dental Assistant to join our team. This role supports the dental office ecosystem and is aligned with Heartland Dental’s commitment to patient-first care, teamwork, and continuous learning.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and welcome patients from the start of their dental journey, sustain patient comfort, and provide education throughout treatment
  • Review patient health history to support quality care
  • Take and process x-rays and other diagnostic assessments (e.g., iTero 3D scanner, digital photography)
  • Provide chairside assistance (four-handed dentistry) to supported dentists during a variety of procedures in accordance with state dental practice act
  • Utilize Dentrix for patient scheduling and record keeping
  • Prepare treatment rooms with adherence to safety protocols and OSHA & CDC guidelines
  • Manage supply and inventory levels and place/expedite orders as needed
  • Collaborate with providers and team to implement Heartland Dental systems and maximize office workflow

Minimum Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of dental procedures and terminology
  • Experience in a fast-paced, customer-centric environment
  • Dental assistant certification and/or x-ray certification if required by state dental practice act
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Access to minimum PHI necessary for job-related functions; regular HIPAA training will be required; ability to protect PHI and maintain data safeguards

Preferred Experience

  • 1+ years of experience in a dental setting
  • Dentrix or other dental software experience
  • Dental assisting school certification

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and standing
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds at times
  • Availability to attend virtual or in-person training sessions periodically
  • TB test required for all new hires in dental office positions (not applicable in FL & TN); test arranged during pre-employment process
