Under the general supervision of the Clinical Director and/or Administrator and attending dentists, the incumbent will carry out Dental Assistant functions in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Salary & Compensation: UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Benefits start on day one.

Qualifications

  • Dental Terminology: Working knowledge of current dental terminology, materials, equipment, and procedures relating to dentistry. (Required)
  • Dental Procedures and Techniques: Working knowledge of four-handed dentistry, principles of asepsis, aseptic technique, sterilization procedures, operating room sanitation practices and techniques and infection control. (Required)
  • Inventory Control: Knowledge of inventory control systems to maintain stock levels, take an inventory count and prepare reports. (Required)
  • Knowledge of Oral Surgery operating room materials/instrumentation/equipment/furniture and how they are stored and operation of operating room equipment. (Required)
  • Ability to control issuing supplies and equipment to minimize loss and maximize utilization. (Required)
  • Patient relations skills to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, including difficult patients and infectious-disease patients. (Required)
  • Ability to organize emergency situations and respond appropriately. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of University policies and procedures regarding patient care. (Preferred)
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with faculty members, staff and students. (Required)
  • Demonstrated verbal and written skills using English grammar to obtain and provide information, explain policies and procedures and answer the telephone. (Required)
  • Ability to learn new procedures and improve existing skills by participating in various types of training courses. (Required)
  • Organizational skills to set priorities to reflect relative importance of job responsibility. (Required)
  • Ability to handle multiple demands and frequent interruptions, while maintaining a friendly demeanor. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Possession of current California State certification as Dental Assistant, Radiology licensure and CPR certificate. (Required)

Special Conditions for Employment

  • Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
  • Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
  • Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired.
  • TB Test: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory TB test.
  • COVID and Flu Vaccinations: The position is subject to providing evidence of inoculation.
  • CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA. The employee must sign the Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse.

Schedule: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
