Overview
Location: 601 Elmwood Ave, Rochester, New York, United States of America, 14642. Department: 920720 EIOH General Dentistry. Position: Dental Assistant. Work Type: Regular, Full-time. Time Type: Time as Reported / Per Diem. Department and schedule: UR - Day (United States of America).
As a member of the UR community, you will support dentists and other providers in patient care, assist in clinic or dental operating room settings, and perform advanced dental tasks under New York State licensure.
Responsibilities
- Provide chairside or operating room assistance to Dentists and other providers.
- Maintain sterile environment and aseptic technique.
- Utilize four-handed technique, pass and receive instruments, retract tissue, operate oral vacuum equipment, and apply water/air to the operative field.
- Maintain inventory of clinic equipment, instruments, forms, and supplies; identify replacement needs.
- Assist with ordering processes as needed.
- Maximize room utilization through inventory awareness, stocking, cleaning operatories, and daily preparation of dental units.
- Clean and decontaminate instruments; clean and maintain equipment; perform basic repairs when needed.
- Prepare and perform required laboratory work after patient visits (e.g., pouring dentures/partials, making bite guards, setting up fluoride trays).
- Dispose of hazardous waste/chemicals; escort patients to/from operatories; assist patients with special needs.
- Follow standard clinical safety measures and verify patient identification.
- Anticipate day-to-day needs (armamentarium, nitrogen tank, OR carts, and other equipment) to ensure smooth operations and patient safety.
- Review patient records to plan for visit complexity and time frames; adjust schedules as needed.
- Set up and use specialized equipment for documentation of vital signs during sedations or other procedures.
- Take intra-oral, extra-oral, and panorex radiographs; develop and mount radiographs; support QA and quality assurance initiatives.
- Perform instrument sterilization; assist with data collection for quality and research activities.
- Support new hire training and orientation; participate in shadow training experiences.
- In the absence of a Lead Dental Assistant, perform other managerial duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education & Experience
- High School diploma or high school student in good academic standing required.
- 1 year of experience as a Dental Assistant or in an Operating Room environment preferred.
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of dental terminology, procedures, and computer experience preferred.
Licenses And Certifications
- Valid work permit upon hire required.
