Phlebotomist – We Train

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in determining the suitability of donors.
  • Establish rapport with donors to ensure overall customer happiness while ensuring donor confidentiality.
  • Respond to and assist with handling donor reactions.
  • Monitor donors and equipment to ensure donor health and quality of product.
  • Set up, disconnect, and operate the automated plasmapheresis machines.
  • Disconnect and dispose of all contaminated disposable equipment.

Occupational Demands

  • Work is performed in a plasma center.
  • Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms.
  • Exposure to electrical office and laboratory equipment.
  • Exposure to extreme cold below 32 degrees F while working in plasma freezers.
  • Personal protective equipment required, such as protective eyewear, garments, gloves and cold-gear.
  • Work is performed standing for 6 to 8 hours per day; bending and twisting of neck and waist for 1-2 hours per day; frequent hand movement and fine motor tasks.
  • Frequent foot movement; may infrequently squat, crouch or sit on one's heels.
  • May walk up to 6-8 hours per day; light lifting up to 15 lbs with a maximum lift of 50 lbs.
  • Hearing acuity and vision requirements; color perception and vision correction as needed.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow instructions and to work under guidance of oral or written instructions.
