Overview

This individual has documented training appropriate for the testing performed, including tests authorized by the Laboratory Medical Director. Training ensures skills for specimen collection, handling, processing, and transporting, including limited laboratory testing, proper instrument use, preventive maintenance, and quality control under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Deliver excellent customer service.
• Contribute to patient satisfaction and net operating margin goals.
• Maintain dependability, cooperation, and accuracy in results.
• Assist in training new employees under supervision.
• Perform clerical duties such as logging specimens and communication.
• Follow laboratory procedures for specimen collection and testing.
• Maintain records of proficiency testing and quality control.
• Identify and troubleshoot test performance issues promptly.
• Adhere to safety protocols, including universal precautions and PPE use.
• Collect specimens via venipuncture and skin puncture, ensuring proper patient identification.
• Transport specimens timely to meet turnaround times.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; college-level Biology or Chemistry preferred.
• ASCP Phlebotomy certification within 6 months of hire preferred; current certification required.

Skills and Experience

• Experience with LIS applications; strong communication skills.
• Completion of approved phlebotomy training with at least 100 successful venipunctures preferred.
• 1-3 years of phlebotomy experience preferred.

Working Conditions

Constant standing, walking; frequent handling, lifting up to 10 lbs; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs; various physical activities as described.
