Position overview
We are seeking an Overnight Veterinary Assistant to join our growing hospital to provide exceptional care to our patients. The overnight assistant provides essential care and support for animals in the veterinary hospital during nighttime hours. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong commitment to animal care and the ability to work independently. Responsibilities
- Patient Monitoring: Continuously observe hospitalized animals, noting any changes in their condition and reporting them to the veterinarian or technician.
- Assisting With Treatments: Administer medications, perform treatments as directed.
- Maintaining Cleanliness: Ensure kennels, cages, and treatment areas are clean and sanitary, adhering to infection control protocols.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including vital signs, medications administered, and any changes in condition.
- Emergency Care: Be prepared to assist with emergency situations, including providing CPR, administering life-saving techniques, and stabilizing patients until a veterinarian can intervene.
- Basic Animal Care: Feed, water, and provide basic care for animals, ensuring their comfort and well-being.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED certificate
- Flexible schedule including some weekend and holiday shifts
- Knowledge of medical procedures and animal handling
- Must possess strong communication skills, good judgment, be able to manage stressful situations, and work with others on a team respectfully
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
