The Catholic Diocese of Corpus Christi is seeking to hire an Administrative Assistant for the Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi Newman Center.

Ministerial Character
The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.

Responsibilities
The list below reflects the general details considered necessary to describe the primary functions of the job identified and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the job.

  • As an integral part of the ministry for the Church, this position will support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Continuously grows in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Newman Center including finances, operations, and facilities management, including but not limited to creating annual budgets, paying bills, and casting vision for future projects
  • Manage and supervise student interns including hiring and training
  • Create calendar of activities for campus ministry; promote, plan, and facilitate gatherings including, but not limited to, weekly Islander lunches, new student orientation events, Welcome Week, graduation Mass, receptions;
  • Promote the Newman Center ministry by establishing key relationships and resources in the community, on campus, and in the local parishes
  • Coordinate the recruitment of volunteers
  • Organize Newman Center files
  • Assist with faith and spiritual formation events
  • Assist with maintenance of the Newman Center website and social media accounts
  • Create schedule of liturgical ministers
  • Collaborate with TAMUCC student organizations
  • Coordinate student outreach and promotion of the Newman Center with other members of Newman Center staff
  • Engage alumni via the newsletter
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Mental/Physical Demands

  • Ability to carry, pull, push, lift, bend, or move objects 10 pounds or more
  • Ability to maintain composure under duress; maintain emotional control under stress
  • Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Ministry, Religious Studies, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum two years of ministry experience with a college or university campus ministry or young adult ministry
  • Know the basic teachings of the Catholic Church and live by them with an openness to learn more about the Faith
  • Food handler's license preferred
  • Valid Texas driver's license required
  • A love for God, His Church, His people, and an enjoyment and willingness to serve them from an administrative standpoint, particularly college-aged students
  • Practicing Roman Catholic with a general knowledge of Catholic liturgy

Additional Requirements

  • Must successfully complete pre-employment screening including criminal history background check, motor vehicle record review (MVR), and drug screening
  • Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources is required
  • Must adhere to all Diocesan policies and procedures
