Overview

Entry-Level Dispatcher role at ECS in Dulles, VA. This is an entry-level position that performs event logging and recording of centrally managed law enforcement radio monitoring, monitoring of intrusion detection systems, non-emergency and emergency dispatching, incident reporting, and utilization of investigative databases. After 90 days of employment, qualified candidates may be eligible for promotion to Dispatcher Level I, contingent upon availability.

Responsibilities

  • Perform event logging and recording of centrally managed law enforcement radio monitoring.
  • Monitor intrusion detection systems and respond to security events.
  • Conduct non-emergency and emergency dispatching and initiate internal and external law enforcement responses based on defined criteria.
  • Accurately capture and document event information and ensure the accuracy of information stored in the alarm database.
  • Provide professional customer service to internal and external parties; communicate clear and concise information via telephone and radio.
  • Monitor biological detection systems (BDS) and disseminate information accordingly.
  • Access and communicate intelligence data maintained in internal and external databases; query, enter, and update electronic records.
  • Maintain professionalism under highly stressful situations; read and comprehend English; write reports concisely and accurately; proofread documentation for grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Maintain strong computer and data entry skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel; type a minimum of 45 words per minute (WPM); manage and prioritize tasks from multiple simultaneous sources.

Qualifications

  • Possess a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma.
  • Be a citizen of the United States of America per contract.
  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Be able to attain and maintain a USPIS Moderate Background Investigation (MBI) Clearance.
  • Be able to sit for an extended period while monitoring multiple computer monitors.
  • Be able to read, write, and speak English clearly and fluently; demonstrate ability to provide quality customer service.
  • Be able to hear ordinary telephone and radio conversations with either ear.
  • Be able to type at least 45 WPM and perform data entry with accuracy.
  • Prior experience with alarm monitoring and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) software is desirable.
  • In addition to the above minimum requirements, demonstrate ability to monitor radio communications and intrusion detection systems using automated monitoring software.

Desired Skills

  • Obtain dispatcher certification within nine months of assignment (equivalent to APCO LEC).
  • Obtain and maintain NCIC/NLETS Limited Certification within six months of start date.
