The Assistant Coach of Strength and Conditioning plays a key role in advancing the health, safety, and performance of student-athletes across multiple varsity teams at the University of Redlands. This position ensures that all student-athletes receive equitable, individualized support through structured strength and conditioning programs.
Reporting to the Head Strength and Conditioning/Fitness Center Director, this position supports the University’s mission by promoting physical well-being, reducing injury risks, enhancing mental resilience, and contributing to academic and athletic success.
This role requires flexibility in scheduling, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional travel to support team activities.
Duties And Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assists in designing and delivering safe, sport-specific strength and conditioning programs.
- Monitors and coaches student-athletes during training sessions to ensure proper technique and injury prevention.
- Tracks performance metrics and supports athlete development through data-informed training plans.
- Collaborates with athletic trainers, coaches, and academic support staff to foster well-rounded student success.
- Promotes time management, mental wellness, and physical health among student-athletes.
- Supports strength and conditioning needs across a diverse range of sports programs and team cultures.
- Helps maintain facilities, organize equipment, and uphold safety protocols.
- Assists in onboarding and supervising student workers, interns, or volunteers as needed.
- Ensures compliance with NCAA, SCIAC, and institutional training regulations.
- Participates in department-wide initiatives that enhance co-curricular learning, inclusion, and wellness.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Experience/Training/Education
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
- One to three years of relevant experience in strength and conditioning or athletic performance coaching.
- CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) or SCCC certification.
- Experience working in a collegiate or high school athletic program.
- Familiarity with NCAA Division III standards and philosophy.
- Understanding of performance enhancement, injury prevention, and recovery methods.
- Demonstrated ability to teach proper lifting techniques and ensure athlete safety.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse student populations.
- Organizational and time-management abilities to support multiple teams and schedules.
- Commitment to inclusive, student-centered service delivery and educational support.
- Knowledge of training software, fitness tracking systems, and gym equipment.
- Ability to foster motivation, discipline, and resilience among student-athletes.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in fitness facilities and athletic training environments. Requires flexibility in scheduling, including evenings, early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Demands
Must be able to demonstrate exercises, assist athletes with lifts, and manage gym equipment. Requires regular standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs), kneeling, and spotting.
