Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) Mechanic Lead

Base pay range: $45.98/hr

Summary: Perform maintenance, diagnostic testing, overhauling, installation, and repairs on a large variety of extremely sophisticated refrigeration, dehumidification, air-conditioning, ventilation, and heating systems equipment. The systems serve critically controlled environmental installations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Research specifications as provided by other parties and make installation corrections required to ensure proper function of equipment as required by tenant agency requirements.
  • Perform HVAC service calls and preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment.
  • Perform equipment repairs including carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical tasks through use of varied types of test equipment such as voltmeters, amprobes, psychrometers, capacitor analyzer, temperature testers, leak detectors, micrometer, CO2 testers, vacuum gauges, and megohmmeters.
  • Communicate service details with customers and supervisors.
  • Enter job scope and time into computer and complete repair paperwork.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Potential to liaison with customer.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in high rise building maintenance.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of commercial HVAC experience.
  • Valid and current Universal EPA Certification.
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described, including related work experience in one or more of the building trades.
  • Willingness and ability to work on lighting (bulbs, ballasts) and plumbing (plunging, repair, installation) as needed.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
  • Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks.

Desired Qualifications & Skills

  • Knowledge of HVAC, chilled water systems.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new systems.
  • Strong attendance record and punctuality.
  • Prior knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Working knowledge of carpentry, painting, and electrical systems.
  • Focused on providing strong customer service.
  • Able to prioritize tasks and manage time to meet deadlines.
  • Able to perform job responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Able to work with others in a professional manner.
  • Work in accordance with established safety procedures.

Work Schedule & Travel

Full-time. May be required to work additional hours as needed to complete assignment or project. Travel: None. Driving requirements: None.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Work is primarily performed in an office setting and/or building but may also be performed in a maintenance facility. May be exposed to sharp objects, heat, loud noise, chemicals, lead, and vibration. OSHA regulations apply; use of personal protective equipment is mandatory where applicable. Exposure to a wide variety of people and environments. Physical demands include bending, reaching, standing, climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 pounds, and other movements as described in the original job content.

Compensation & Benefits Package

  • Pay range: $45.98 per hour.
  • H&W: $12.39 per hour.
