This position is responsible for the maintenance of city-owned grounds, parks, and recreation facilities. Key duties include landscaping, mowing, fertilizing, and general grounds maintenance.

Job Summary

We seek dedicated individuals with a passion for outdoor work, landscaping, and plant care. The role involves maintaining and enhancing outdoor spaces, suitable for those who enjoy hands-on work and have an eye for design.

Typical Duties

• Maintain city grounds, parks, trails, cemeteries, open spaces, and recreation facilities. Tasks include mowing, aerating, weeding, cleaning, trash pickup, raking leaves, clearing sidewalks, and debris removal. Assist with planting, sod laying, reseeding, and sprinkler system inspection.
• Operate various handheld and mechanical grounds maintenance equipment, including mowers, blowers, and sweepers. May operate heavy landscaping equipment without requiring a Commercial Driver's License.
• Operate vehicles and irrigation systems, perform preventive maintenance, minor repairs, and ensure equipment safety and efficiency.
• Assist with the application of fertilizers, herbicides, and other chemicals.
• Prepare fields and parks for public use, clean areas affected by unauthorized camping, and collaborate with city and health department staff as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to reach various parks and public lands, requiring a valid driver’s license or driving privilege card.
• Must be at least 16 years old.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience in maintenance and landscaping.
• Experience working in municipal parks.
• Experience operating light or heavy equipment.

Working Conditions

• Moderately heavy physical activity, including lifting up to 50 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 80 lbs. Extended periods of standing, walking, or sitting. Exposure to weather extremes, noise, dust, and fumes.
• Intermittent stress due to human behavior.
