Base pay range

$206,600.00/yr - $264,400.00/yr

Summary

The Vice President of Sales, Hardware is a key member of the executive leadership team responsible for setting and executing the strategic direction of our sales function across North America. This role demands visionary leadership, a deep understanding of market dynamics, and a proven ability to drive sustainable, profitable growth. The VP of Sales will cultivate high-performing teams, drive go-to-market strategies, and ensure alignment with broader organizational goals and brand positioning.

Responsibilities

  • Executive Leadership & Team Development: Develop, nurture and execute a holistic North American channel and customer segment strategy for the Benjamin Moore brand to expand customer reach, maximize share growth and attain premium positioning in the varying independently owned hardware retail entities that include but not limited to, Hardware Co-Ops, Hardware Wholesale Distributors, Hardware Stores, Building Supply Outlets and Lumber Yards.
  • Manage existing and explore new opportunities to leverage and grow Benjamin Moore’s diversified brands and/or customized solutions outside of the independent channel that meet strategic and profitable objectives.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of a dynamic field deployment strategy to cultivate, service and support the targeted end-users, the retail distribution outlets and select HQ account management needs of strategic organizations in accordance with the Benjamin Moore value proposition.
  • Align with the VP of Sales, Paint & Decorating and the VP of Sales Operations and Communications on the accountability and attainment of the short and long-term business goals and objectives for the sales organization.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Finance, Supply Chain, and Product teams to drive unified business outcomes.
  • Establish a performance-driven culture by defining clear KPIs, fostering accountability, and promoting professional development at all levels.
  • Drive comprehensive talent strategy by mentoring senior leaders, developing succession plans, and championing inclusion & belonging.

Strategic Market & Customer Insights

  • Nurture and maintain top-to-top relationships with strategic and impactful distribution customers and/or prospects within the Hardware channel.
  • Monitor industry trends and competitive landscape to inform proactive market positioning, product innovation, and customer engagement strategies.
  • Represent the voice of the customer within the organization, championing insights-driven decisions and customer-first initiatives.

Business & Revenue Planning

  • Own the creation and execution of multi-year strategic business plans focused on top-line revenue growth, margin optimization, and market share expansion.
  • Oversee accurate budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation with full P&L accountability; continuously evaluate ROI and refine investment decisions accordingly.

Operational Excellence & Governance

  • Ensure operational scalability through process optimization, sales enablement, and deployment of best-in-class tools and systems.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders on legal, compliance, logistics, and HR-related matters to support sustainable business operations.
  • Report regularly to executive leadership and board stakeholders on sales performance, strategic initiatives, and market outlook.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive sales leadership experience in the paint, coatings, or related building materials industries.
  • Proven track record managing diverse sales channels (independent dealers, retail, commercial, contractor) and delivering revenue growth in a mature market.
  • Deep knowledge of the architectural coatings industry, including product positioning, store operations, contractor buying behavior, and DIY/other customer segments’ consumer behaviors, which are key to hardware stores.
  • Executive presence with strong relationship management, influencing, and negotiation skills.
  • Experience leading P&L, budgeting, and high-stakes forecasting processes.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration abilities, particularly with Marketing, Product, and Supply Chain.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills; adept at translating strategy into action.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Willingness to travel extensively (usually 40-50%) and engage in additional evening/weekend events as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

The salary range listed herein refers to the amount the Company is willing to pay at the time of posting. The actual salary offer will be carefully considered based on a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, job location, and other relevant factors.
