The Waste & Streets Management Technician II is responsible for assisting in waste and streets operations. Working independently and as part of a team, exercising good judgment and discretion is essential.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- As essential personnel, you are expected to be available during school closings, delays, shutdowns, and emergencies, including severe weather clean-up. Maintenance personnel are crucial for events like Commencement and Orientation, and must be available for scheduled and emergency hours. Performs snow removal activities as assigned.
- Report to work on time and follow duties assigned by supervisors or the Grounds Director.
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing duties and operating equipment, including eye protection, ear protection, hard hats, gloves, safety shoes, respirators/masks, safety vests, and sunscreen.
- Use harnesses and PPE when operating aerial lifts.
- Follow daily and weekly work assignments.
- Assist team members to complete tasks efficiently.
- Maintain and clean equipment.
- Collect refuse from small cans, dumpsters, and perform street and parking lot cleaning, marking, and repair tasks.
- Transport equipment on and off campus.
- Have thorough knowledge of the campus layout.
- Plan and direct work effectively.
- Work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Stay updated on industry technologies and standards.
- Work collaboratively, supporting LU’s mission.
Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies
Requires a high school diploma or GED. 2+ years’ experience in grounds or maintenance preferred. CDL and reputable driving record preferred. Experience in waste or street maintenance is desirable. Must have a valid Virginia driver’s license and be insurable. Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and communicate effectively is essential. Must be able to lift 50+ pounds and perform maintenance tasks in Virginia’s climate. Certifications obtained at Liberty University will be reimbursed if the employee resigns within 12 months of certification. Working conditions include exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, odors, and noise. Must be flexible to work weekends, holidays, and evenings.
