Overview
Substitute Secretary position at Calhoun Intermediate School District. This role serves on an as-needed basis in district K-12 buildings. The substitute Secretary is often the first point of contact for guests, visitors, students, and parents entering a school building. A positive disposition and willingness to assist are important attributes. The Substitute Secretary works to support a positive learning environment by assisting students, parents, and staff in matters that support the building's culture and climate.
Responsibilities
- Greet the public, grant access to the main office, provide assistance as needed, record and disseminate messages.
- Distribute interoffice mail and all school-related mail, packages, etc.
- Answer the telephone, respond to inquiries, and route calls to the appropriate person.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
- Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment; ability to support colleagues within the high school main office; strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and customer-service skills; computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google programs (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Gmail), including willingness to learn and use new programs/applications; experience working with students in a diverse, multicultural setting preferred; ability to perform duties of a sensitive and confidential nature; bilingual preferred.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively to staff, students, and community members.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform arithmetic operations (add, subtract, multiply, and divide) in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
