Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)/Clinical Secretary

The Clinical Secretary Nursing Assistant performs clerical duties on a nursing unit, answers the telephone, relays messages, and acts as a receptionist receiving and directing visitors and ambulatory patients. The Clinical Secretary Nursing Assistant is responsible for direct patient care services as assigned by the Clinical Director and under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.

Essential Functions:

  • Telephone and patient call bells are answered in a prompt and appropriate manner
  • Orders are transcribed accurately
  • Charts are in appropriate order, flagged and labeled appropriately for verbal orders
  • Files labs and other reports accurately
  • Assures all referrals and consults are initiated appropriately

Education:

  • High School graduate required with the successful completion of Medical Terminology course and a passing score on the examination. Or may substitute 2 years previous specific work experience with medical terminology for the Medical Terminology course certification.
  • High School graduate required with the completion of approved course of study for Nursing Assistant training or successful completion of fundamentals semester of Nursing school preferred.

Experience:

  • One year Clerical experience or Nursing Assistant experience preferred.

Special Skills:

  • Works with patients, families, physicians, and other health care providers.

License/Certification:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. BLS Recertification is required every two years.

Physical Requirements: Medium While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, and walk; occasionally to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
