Overview
Part-time position, 10 hours per week, with a flexible schedule Monday–Friday. Pay range: from $18.13 to $22.57 per hour. Position focuses on mentoring and supporting Native American students, with emphasis on student academic achievement, school attendance, school connectedness, physical-social-emotional-mental wellness, school-family partnership, and Native American culture. The role is designed to be flexible to fulfill responsibilities and to help at-risk students improve academic skills and model social and emotional wellness.
Responsibilities
- Academic Support: work directly with a caseload of Native American students and their families, and collaborate with school staff to improve student academic skills.
- Establish a communication system with the Native American Coordinator for tutoring programming units and related duties.
- Serve as an academic resource for the student and as a connection between regular school instructional staff, the student, and the family.
- Collaborate with school administration, counselors, teachers, school staff, and Native American Education Program staff to facilitate connection to district personnel.
- Facilitate Warrior Circle groups (talking circles) with students to build positive cultural identity and self-esteem.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation to fulfill grant requirements.
- Other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or Native American Coordinator (priority: secondary).
- Participate in professional development and mandatory district training.
- Engage in special projects with the Native American Education Coordinator office as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous experience working or volunteering in a K-12 school setting.
- Ability to communicate with students, colleagues, and parents/guardians.
- Basic academic and computer skills.
- Knowledge of Native American culture, history, values, and communities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary degree program.
- Ability to work without continued supervision and directions.
This position reports to the Native American Education Coordinator. Personal contact with students, parents/guardians, and coworkers is essential and may involve handling confidential information. The incumbent takes initiative to complete tasks and adjusts priorities to meet workload demands. Tasks are performed under the direction of the Native American Coordinator and questions are referred to the Native American Coordinator or Building Principal.
