The Medical Director (MD) is responsible for providing strong leadership for the hospital, managing and mentoring associate veterinarians, and ensuring regulatory compliance related to veterinary medicine. The MD maintains a teamwork environment to deliver high-quality veterinary care. In partnership with hospital leadership, the MD shares responsibility for the hospital's financial health, staff management, and overall practice operations. The MD also serves as a staff veterinarian alongside administrative duties. Successful MDs demonstrate strong work ethics, a positive attitude, and uphold high standards of patient care.

Hospital Overview:

American Pet Clinic has been providing compassionate veterinary care since 2012, offering a wide range of services including wellness exams, vaccinations, dental care, internal medicine, geriatrics, pain management, and hospice/end-of-life care.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $160,000 - $180,000

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain high-quality veterinary care standards
  • Oversee medical standards and quality of care
  • Set policies for medical practice
  • Promote team integration of services
  • Recommend inventory additions
  • Budget for equipment with ROI analysis
  • See patients and handle clinical practice
  • Ensure effective communication with clients and staff
  • Review patient records for accuracy and completeness
  • Manage controlled substances appropriately
  • Approve medication and supply requests
  • Conduct regular medical meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Administrative Duties:

  • Handle patient care issues, client complaints, and referrals
  • Manage staff and client complaints, and develop policies
  • Schedule staff to meet hospital needs
  • Ensure compliance with legal and professional standards

Leading by Example:

  • Maintain valid veterinary licensure
  • Monitor staff performance and provide coaching
  • Serve as a mentor and role model

Practice Development:

  • Lead hiring of new veterinarians
  • Identify new service opportunities
  • Monitor practice KPIs and collaborate on improvements
  • Plan for operational challenges
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree
  • At least 3 years of clinical experience
  • Leadership or management experience preferred

Pay Range: $160,000–$180,000 USD.
