Job Description
U.S. Pipe and Foundry is seeking a Production Supervisor. The successful candidate will lead the production operations in the assigned department through the daily execution of processes and procedures, ensuring the effective supervision of the assigned hourly employees engaged in the production process and focusing on safety, people, production, quality, and delivery standards of U.S. Pipe and Foundry.
Essential Functions
- Leads the work of hourly production employees to ensure that procedures are followed in a safe, quality-conscious, and productive manner while managing labor cost.
- Ensures daily production schedules are met; if not, identifies and captures the reasons for gaps.
- Uses daily Leader Standard Work to manage the process and quickly identify deviations.
- Uses root cause analysis to determine actions to prevent recurrence of issues that cause gaps to standards.
- Experience with mechanical equipment and tooling is required.
- Ability to troubleshoot/diagnose mechanical problems, especially on core making equipment.
- Supervises production and craft employees to ensure quality cores, proper tooling maintenance, and appropriate inspection intervals.
- Ensures safe work practices, adherence to safety rules, and orderly work areas.
- Conducts regular area safety inspections and 5S audits.
- Investigates incidents fully and documents in the accident investigation system in a timely manner; ensures corrective actions are implemented promptly.
- Maintains open communication with crew on safety, quality, production, maintenance, housekeeping, and personnel issues.
- Uses KPI data to understand performance drivers and implements improvements when targets are not met.
- Ensures production equipment is set up properly and maintained in good operating condition.
- Ensures availability of materials and equipment required for daily work.
- Maintains contact with maintenance supervisors to prioritize maintenance activities.
- Develops and executes a plan to train and qualify assigned hourly employees for their positions.
- Works with Area Manager and Continuous Improvement personnel on process improvements, including 5S and Kaizen initiatives.
- Fills in for other Production Supervisors as needed (vacations, planned outages, or other scenarios); may be on any shift.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills and Other Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of supervisory or management experience in a heavy, union or non-union, fast-paced manufacturing and/or construction environment.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing) or related field is desirable.
- Experience with ductile iron products or similar manufacturing operations is a plus.
- Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma experience is a plus.
- Foundry experience is highly desired.
