Lewis Bakeries, founded in 1925, is one of the few remaining independent bakeries in the Midwest. Our team is dedicated to producing high-quality products such as Bunny Bread, Lewis ½ Loaf, Healthy Life, Sunbeam, and Hartford Farms. We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Production Supervisor in Evansville, Indiana.
This role reports to the Production Manager and is responsible for implementing best practices and standards to ensure efficient production of consistent quality bread and roll products. The supervisor will oversee work activities, ensuring food quality, safety, legal compliance, and continuous process improvements.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Implement standards for formulas, weights, sizes, bake times, and production controls for bread and rolls.
- Train, coach, and evaluate production staff and overall bakery performance.
- Lead with vision, manage change, develop team members, and plan for continuous improvement.
- Coordinate manpower, ingredients, and equipment for efficient production.
- Optimize resource use to produce baked goods efficiently.
- Apply best practices to control costs.
- Promote safety through procedures and safety programs.
- Troubleshoot equipment to maintain product quality.
- Ensure timely delivery of quality products to Sales.
- Evaluate product quality for compliance with standards.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with other departments.
- Adapt successfully in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Job Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
- 1-2 years of experience specifically in high-speed bread and/or roll production is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory role.
- Knowledge of large-scale bakery equipment and operations.
- Understanding of ingredient functionality related to baking processes.
- Basic computer skills (Excel, Word, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- Union management experience is strongly desired.
- Completion of AIB baking science courses is a plus.
- Knowledge of BRC & BSCI standards is highly preferred.
