The Manufacturing Engineer interfaces with all functions in the facility to support the manufacture of current products and the development of equipment and processes for new products and improvements to the overall Product Delivery System.

Responsibilities

Level 1:

  • Acquires job skills and learns policies, procedures, and work instructions to complete routine tasks.
  • Works on assignments routine in nature, requiring limited judgment.
  • Routinely interacts with cross-functional groups within the Liebherr organization.
  • Supports development of new and existing products and processes.
  • Provides input for fiscal planning, capital projects, and cost reductions.
  • Reviews product design for manufacturability.
  • Provides feedback for dispositioning of non-conforming product.
  • Provides technical assistance in the implementation of manufacturing concepts.
  • Implements and supports manufacturing technologies.
  • Assists in specifying, selecting, and installing equipment that is statistically capable, reliable, and maintainable as well as safe and ergonomically sound.
  • Conducts time studies as required to support manufacturing processes.
  • Evaluates and proposes new and advanced engineering concepts, new equipment, processes, and technological developments in the manufacturing facility to maintain state-of-the-art awareness.
  • Develops equipment utilization forecasts and makes proposals necessary to support planned and unplanned future growth and/or requirements changes.
  • Investigates and recommends possible alternative materials to improve availability and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Maintains and reviews processes to ensure safe tools, methods, operations, and equipment are in use throughout the facility.
  • Supports supplier development in manufacturing.

Level 2:

  • All duties of Level 1 plus applies acquired job skills, policies, procedures, and work instructions to complete tasks.
  • Requires instructions on a few assignments.
  • Identifies areas for manufacturing improvement, researches, and develops solutions to improve production efficiency.
  • Selects, specifies, and installs equipment that is statistically capable, reliable, and maintainable as well as safe and ergonomically sound.
  • Dispositions issues with non-conforming product.
  • Attends and provides manufacturing feedback at design reviews.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to drive quality and process improvements.
  • Collects and analyzes data, develops metrics and reports using basic statistical methods.
  • Provides technical direction, leadership, and support for the factory in lean manufacturing, tooling, manufacturing processes, project management, and training.

Level 3:

  • All duties of Level 2 plus utilizes substantial understanding of the job and applies knowledge and skills to complete a wide range of tasks.
  • Requires minimal supervision.
  • Works on assignments that are moderately difficult and require judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations.
  • Skilled in planning, managing, directing resources, and managing projects.
  • Has the ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Confers with Engineers to investigate equipment failures and difficulties to analyze and provide technical recommendations and design changes.
  • Develops manufacturing procedures and processes to ensure that production goals are met.
  • Independently collaborates with multiple departments to manage medium to large scale projects.
  • Researches and analyzes Field and Customer proposals, specifications, and other data to evaluate feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
  • Attends and provides manufacturing approval at design reviews.

Level 4 (Senior):

  • All duties of Level 3 plus requires little to no supervision.
  • Effectively communicates and manages projects with Suppliers, Purchasing, and Engineering.
  • Trains, mentors, and develops peers and other personnel on processes and procedures, resolves failures and system malfunctions, and provides technical guidance.
  • Reviews and approves processes, corrective actions, and product designs for manufacturability.
  • Leads the investigation of failures and difficulties to provide technical recommendations for design changes.
  • Provides feedback on customer problems and needs, working to develop corrective and preventative actions.

Competencies

  • Education and Experience:
    • Level 1 - Bachelor’s degree (BS) in engineering or AS in engineering related discipline with two years of engineering experience, or equivalent.
    • Level 2 - Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Engineering with two years of applicable engineering experience, or equivalent.
    • Level 3 - Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Engineering with four years of applicable engineering experience, or equivalent.
    • Level 4 (Senior) - Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Engineering with six years of applicable engineering experience, or equivalent.
  • Level 1:
    • Knowledge of fundamental engineering and project management concepts and practices.
    • Knowledge of ERP LN system related to mining truck BOM structure and inventory control.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Ability to interpret technical documents such as specifications, drawings, manuals.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
    • Knowledge of heavy equipment manufacturing processes.
    • Judgment: sound decision-making and reasoning.
    • Productivity: meets standards and completes work efficiently.
  • Level 2:
    • All skills of Level 1 plus experience in MRP, BOM, and inventory management.
    • Skilled in reading blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
    • Knowledge of GD&T and tolerance methods.
    • Responsible for small to medium scope projects.
    • Basic knowledge of 3D design software.
  • Level 3:
    • All skills of Level 2 plus effective project management and leadership abilities.
    • Ability to independently manage projects and lead teams.
    • Responsible for large-scale projects.
    • Advanced understanding of lean principles.
  • Level 4:
    • All skills of Level 3 plus high-level project management and strategic planning.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with top management and external stakeholders.
    • Expertise in manufacturing engineering.
