Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer role is with Wabtec Corporation as part of Aero Transportation Products (ATP). ATP supports fiberglass and metal fabrication for Wabtec's Freight Components division, with sites in Independence, MO and McPherson, KS. This role is based in McPherson, KS, with additional support for Independence, MO as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and document robust and cost-effective manufacturing processes, work instructions, and methods in accordance with product specifications, safety and quality standards, and customer demand.
  • Lead the design of required tooling and accessories, and evaluate design and engineering changes that will be released to manufacturing upon feasibility.
  • Recommend and implement improvements in production processes using lean manufacturing principles.
  • Collaborate closely with plant leadership and manage the R&D Technician.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering or related engineering.
  • Three to five or more years of manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Strong foundation in lean manufacturing practices.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge in welding, machining and sheet metal fabrication.
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, and have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.
  • Demonstrate a high aptitude for troubleshooting technical issues and proposing solutions during product development.
  • Proficient in basic mechanical and electrical principles, with the ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal.
  • Work effectively with fellow employees and independently.
  • Familiarity with engineering software.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Dependability under both supervised and unsupervised conditions.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Lead the refinement of manufacturing processes to enhance product quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate daily with operations leaders to review performance data, discuss new issues or challenges, and communicate progress of ongoing activities.
  • Attend and participate in various meetings in a proactive, professional, and purposeful manner.
  • Dedicate time to walking, observing, and supporting site processes.
  • Use the company's systems and applications to document processes, resolve problems, or develop improvements as needed.
  • Review key performance indicators to identify trends, risks, or opportunities.
  • Provide progress updates on engineering tasks and projects.

Physical Demands

  • The main working condition is a temperature-controlled office environment with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.
  • In operations areas, personnel must wear PPE (earplugs, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, and other provided uniforms).
  • May be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions in areas of operations.
  • Possible exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise; appropriate safety measures will be provided.
  • Employee is expected to practice and maintain safe working conditions.

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

Lump sum relocation may be provided if you meet eligibility requirements.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is between $77,400.00 and $110,300.00. The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by factors such as training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands, and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Other benefit offerings for this role may include an annual bonus, if eligible.
