Overview

Manufacturing Engineer role at Teledyne FLIR. Be part of a team that designs, programs, simulates, tests automated machinery and processes, and analyzes production processes to optimize automation and throughput.

Responsibilities

• Work as a member of the manufacturing engineering team on complex projects; design, program, simulate, and test automated machinery and processes; construct equipment and fixtures; analyze production processes to assess automation’s best use; perform regular maintenance on automation equipment, troubleshooting, repairs, and calibration. Experience with automated electromechanical / mechatronic equipment in a manufacturing environment, including robotics, pneumatic systems, servos, and PLCs.
• Develop and maintain clear documentation of automation equipment or processes.
• Assist in the procurement and installation of equipment and perform other duties as assigned.
• Collaborate with production and engineering to communicate recommendations and design changes as applicable.
• Design fixtures and tooling; evaluate processes for increased throughput and troubleshoot issues on products and processes.
• Determine problem resolutions and implement improvements; evaluate manufacturing processes and workflows to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Develop and implement cost-saving measures and quality control systems.
• Ensure manufacturing processes and equipment meet capability and capacity requirements.
• Research and develop new processes, new equipment, and new product introductions (NPI).
• Ensure manufacturing processes and equipment comply with safety standards; participate in cross-functional meetings to ensure collaboration.

Education And Experience

• BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering
• Minimum of 2 years hands-on practical experience supporting and designing automated systems
• Minimum of 2 years hands-on practical experience in a production and/or assembly environment
• Excellent computer skills, particularly in programming and software development; automation roles require substantial computer use
• Equipment troubleshooting skills; ability to debug or troubleshoot existing systems
• Communication skills to explain complex ideas to stakeholders at all levels; strong written documentation skills
• Problem-solving and creative thinking; ability to troubleshoot and implement effective solutions
• Flexibility and adaptability to keep up with new techniques and technologies
• Knowledge and experience in Lean and/or Six Sigma
• Desirable knowledge of Project Management, Risk Assessment, and Design of Experiments
