Our client, a consulting firm supporting the manufacturing sector, is seeking a client-facing Controller. In this role you will serve manufacturing clients, combining hands-on accounting leadership with advisory responsibilities to help tighten the close, strengthen controls, and drive margin and cash performance across multi-plant/multi-entity environments.

The Role

The Controller will lead day-to-day accounting, own the monthly close, elevate internal controls, and deliver timely, accurate financials. You’ll collaborate with operations, supply chain, and leadership on cost, inventory, and cash initiatives.

As part of a client service team, you will act as the outsourced Controller for manufacturing clients—bridging technical accounting with operational decision-making. • Inventory & COGS: Oversee cycle counts/physicals; ensure valuation accuracy (FIFO/standard), WIP integrity, and reserves.
  • Policies & controls: Build/upgrade policies, delegations of authority, and SOX-lite controls across AP/AR/payroll/treasury.
  • Cash & working capital: 13-week cash forecast; collections cadence; vendor terms; inventory turns.
  • Compliance & audits: Coordinate external audits/reviews; manage sales/use tax, property tax, 1099s, state registrations.
  • Systems & automation: Own/improve ERP & adjacent tools (bill pay, expense, close mgmt.); drive simplification and data integrity.
  • Budgeting & performance: Annual plan, standard cost updates, SKU/plant margin analysis, KPI dashboards.
  • Team leadership: Mentor a small accounting team; raise bar on accuracy, speed, and accountability.
  • Client partnership: Serve as the primary financial point of contact for assigned clients, building executive relationships, presenting insights, and delivering clear, actionable recommendations.

Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • 5+ years progressive accounting experience with 3+ years in manufacturing (cost/plant/Controller scope).
  • Strong knowledge of standard costing, BOMs/routings, variance analysis, inventory valuation, WIP.
  • Proven ownership of monthly close, consolidations, audit, and internal controls in multi-entity settings.
  • Hands-on ERP experience and process improvement chops.
