The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will lead efforts to optimize manufacturing processes, improve production efficiency, and ensure the successful implementation of Quality Standard and Inspections aligned with the voice of the customer. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop, evaluate, and continuously improve manufacturing systems while adhering to safety, quality, and cost objectives. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in automotive manufacturing, lean manufacturing principles, and extensive experience in problem-solving on the plant floor.
You Will
Process Improvement
- Analyze and evaluate current manufacturing processes to identify areas for improvement in terms of efficiency, productivity, and cost-effectiveness
- Implement Lean Manufacturing techniques (e.g., 6S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping) to reduce waste and optimize processes
- Develop standardized work procedures to ensure consistency and efficiency in production operations
Process Development
- Lead the development and integration of new processes and equipment for new product introductions or line extensions
- Collaborate with Supplier Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to ensure the quality of the product and seamless launch into production
Production Support
- Resolve production process issues to minimize downtime and improve flow and release of finished vehicles
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as cycle time, defect rate, and throughput to identify issues and implement corrective actions
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to production teams to ensure efficient operation of manufacturing processes and also ensure full compliance of the standardized work and operational excellence processes
Quality Assurance and Control
- Ensure all processes comply with internal quality standards as well as external regulations
- Collaborate with quality engineering teams to analyze defects and implement process improvements to minimize product nonconformance
- Support and collaborate with cross functional teams developing and implementing Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and other risk mitigation tools to address potential manufacturing risks
Project Management
- Lead and manage multiple projects, including cost reduction initiatives, process improvement, and technology upgrades, from concept through implementation
- Prepare project timelines, resource plans, and ensuring projects stay on track and within scope
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders and management on project status, progress, and challenges
Cost Reduction and Efficiency Initiatives
- Identify opportunities for reducing costs related to labor, materials, and overhead without compromising quality or performance
- Develop and implement plans to optimize resource utilization, minimize downtime, and reduce cycle times
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with other departments such as, Quality, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing and Plant Vehicle Engineering to resolve issues and improve processes
- Support the training and development of production operators and junior engineers, ensuring they are equipped to operate within established processes
You Bring
- Engineering or STEM Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience required
- 5+ years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience supporting manufacturing safety, quality and delivery required
- Education or experience in: Minitab; MES; Root cause analysis; Pareto Analysis; Confluence; PDCA; and Qualtrax (or related document control software)
- Familiarity with quality management systems (QMS), including ISO and IATF standards, excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, strong project management and leadership abilities, ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with cross-functional teams, effective communication skills, both written and verbal
