We are looking for a Custodian to join our team at Coastal Community Action (CCA). CCA is a private nonprofit corporation providing services to low-income children and families in ten counties in eastern NC, with a mission of empowering them to become self-sufficient.

This position ensures the proper cleaning, sanitation, health, and safety of our Child Development Centers.

What Youor

  • Ensures the day-to-day janitorial, safety, and general upkeep needs are implemented at the Child Development Center and are conducted consistent with organizational policies and procedures as well as federal and state regulations.
  • Monitors and ensures that the Child Development Center meets health and safety requirements.
  • Use cleaning supplies and equipment to keep the interior of the center looking clean and professionally maintained.
  • Maintain a library of user manuals for office furniture and fixtures that can be referred to when needed.
  • Adhere to safety policies to create a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks based on a schedule created by the Facility and Center Managers, which includes determining daily work assignments.
  • Ensures spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out the trash, tidying furniture, dusting surfaces, and other general cleanliness.
  • Keep floors clean by sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming.
  • Wash and sanitize bathrooms, which includes the toilets, sinks, and restocking disposables (i.e. soap).
  • Wipe mirrors and windows.
  • Maintain outer premises by watering plants, mowing the lawn, and cleaning entrances.
  • Utilize insecticides to prevent infestation of dangerous pests.
  • Perform maintenance and minor repairs (replacing broken switches, fixing door handles, minor leaks, painting, etc.).
  • Report major damages and oversee repairs.
  • Secure facilities after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows, and setting the alarm.

What You'll Have

  • High School Diploma.
  • Two or more years of related experience and/or training in custodial work preferred.
  • First Aid and CPR certification or ability to acquire certification within 60 days of employment.
  • Knowledge of the use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances.
  • Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components.
