Job Summary: The incumbent is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the university’s facilities.

Knowledge Skills And Abilities: Knowledge of commercial cleaning processes, relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective cleaning and building maintenance. Knowledge of the use of chemicals, structure, and properties of substances used in the daily operations of custodial duties. Ability to work within the overall organization of Facilities Management. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to express ideas effectively and concisely.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Sweep, mop and scrub floors, stairs (inside/outside buildings) and other surfaces.
  • Clean and service lavatories, and restrooms.
  • Clean and dust furniture, exhibit cases, pictures, door trim and chalkboards.
  • Vacuum rugs/carpet in offices and public areas. Shampoo rugs/carpets periodically using heavy appropriate equipment.
  • Wash windowsills, glass in corridor doors and trim in entrance doors.
  • Wash and/or clean interior wall spaces.
  • Report items in need of repairs (doors, faucets, windows, etc.).
  • Collect and place trash and debris in designated collection areas.

Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D). One (1) year experience in custodial care of a similar facility. Must possess a valid Mississippi Driver’s License.
