Havre Middle School

40 hours/week / 12 month position

Afternoon Shift 2:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. (shift may vary depending on the needs of the building)

$19.57/hr

This position is subject to a pre-employment physical.

Responsibilities

  • Checks and secures building at beginning and end of shift for safety and cleanliness.
  • Cleans rooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, offices, stairways, and other areas according to district standards.
  • Sweeps, mops, buffs, strips, and waxes floors.
  • Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and blinds.
  • Washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, and sills.
  • Removes graffiti and cleans glass areas.
  • Replaces light bulbs.
  • Sets up and breaks down chairs, tables and equipment in meeting rooms and functional spaces.
  • Clears snow from entrances and walks; spreads sand and ice-melting chemicals.
  • Performs grounds-keeping duties and maintains grounds.
  • Receives deliveries and assists in unloading trucks and storing supplies.
  • Delivers supplies and materials to classrooms, restrooms, and other areas of the building.
  • Empties wastebaskets; removes trash.
  • Performs general cleaning and repair work during school vacations.
  • Assists parents and other visitors to school buildings with special events and programs.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Equipment and Safety

  • Uses hand tools and power equipment such as brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow removal equipment, shovels, power mower, and hand tools.
  • Follows safety rules and wears appropriate safety gear, including masks.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to follow oral or written work orders and coordinate with the principal and others.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Ability to describe cleaning, maintenance or repair problems in writing or speech.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic for measurements and quantities.
  • Ability to work in poor weather conditions and at heights using ladders or lifts.
  • Ability to perform work according to standard procedures and schedules set by supervisors.

Physical and Environmental Demands

  • Works in standard office and school building environments; outdoor work in inclement weather.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, solvents, trash, grasses, pollens, etc.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in building and cleaning maintenance desirable.
  • MT Motor Vehicle Operator's license or ability to provide own transportation.
