Responsibilities
- Perform moderately complex (journey-level) custodial work: clean, dust, disinfect, and sanitize to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
- Operate floor maintenance equipment such as strippers, buffers, vacuums, and extractors.
- Request and restock supplies as necessary; assist in inspections of buildings and equipment for cleanliness and needed repairs.
- Assist in minor building and equipment repairs and installations; maintain assigned custodial equipment in good working order.
- Maintain outside areas around the hospital, clear trash and debris; work under general supervision with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including participation in disaster response, recovery, or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, which may require alternate shift patterns or locations.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs)
- Attend work on a regular basis and follow a predefined shift schedule, including rotating schedules, extended shifts, and/or overtime as needed.
- Perform custodial functions with high quality and timeliness, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning windows and light fixtures; ensure proper sanitization and disinfection per training.
- Cleans and maintains floors, restrooms, nurses’ station, and other areas per established procedures and safety measures.
- Maintain and clean interior and exterior of assigned buildings; empty trash, report repairs, and replenish supplies as needed.
- Coaches other custodians as needed; inspects areas for cleanliness, completed work, and needed minor repairs; performs minor maintenance.
- Complete documentation accurately and timely; protect confidential information; maintain inventory and equipment records.
- Support patient care by helping maintain a safe environment for self, patients, and others.
- Other duties as assigned, including disaster response/COOP participation, with potential alternate shift patterns.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, standards, and sanitation regulations
- Knowledge of infection control principles and methods
- Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods
- Skills in the use of custodial equipment, materials, and safe handling of chemicals
- Skills in the use and maintenance of building maintenance tools and equipment

Initial Screening Criteria
- Six months work experience required
- Experience in custodial or environmental services work in a nursing home, hospital, residential facility, hotel or other similar residential equivalent preferred
Additional Information
- Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct, LEIE.
- Male applicants age 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service.
- All applicants must be at least 18 years old to be considered; Waco Center for Youth applicants must be 21.
- Flexibility in work hours may be required; overtime and/or extended hours may be required.
- Compliance with HHSC immunization policy and related procedures is required. Some vaccines may be required or a mask worn if not immunized in certain situations.
