Overview
Job summary: To inspire and prepare each scholar with the confidence, courage and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to the community; and engage in a lifetime of learning by performing tasks and duties associated with the maintenance and care of district facilities, equipment, and grounds by filling in at buildings as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Communicate work allocation directives issued by the Coordinator and/or Assistant Coordinator, Facilities Operations and building principal to the building custodial personnel.
- Perform general housekeeping tasks including dust mopping and wet mopping classrooms, restrooms and hallways; clean restrooms; strip and seal resilient and hard surface floors; wash windows and walls; clean lockers; vacuum carpeted areas; perform housekeeping tasks according to established district systems and cleaning standards.
- Perform minor carpentry, electrical, mechanical and non-potable water system plumbing repairs; clean equipment, ceilings, floor tiles and carpet.
- Provide support to kitchen staff by mopping floors, unloading groceries and stocking storeroom supplies.
- Monitor and adjust building automation controls.
- Secure the facility; arm and disarm the security system.
- Report vandalism or unauthorized individuals in buildings.
- Maintain building grounds, including watering, mowing, trimming, pruning shrubs and trees, weeding, and removing debris from school yards and fence lines.
- Perform snow removal and keep sidewalks free of ice.
- Take charge of all aspects of the physical operation of the building for which they are responsible.
- Report equipment breakdowns not functioning as designed to the Assistant Coordinator, Maintenance Services (or their designee).
- Maintain and submit all appropriate reports and logs in a timely manner.
- Paint district facilities (walls, doors, frames, etc.).
- Maintain building equipment per department guidelines; operate and maintain boilers and check boiler operation; set up and take down equipment (e.g., tables, chairs, band shell).
- Respond to questions and provide excellent customer service to facility users.
- Perform other comparable duties of a like or similar nature as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Must obtain MN Specialist boiler license to receive Class II pay ($20.75) plus the Shift Differential (1.06).
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Computer skills, including proper use of email communication.
- Knowledge of proper operation of building automation systems.
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques and materials.
- Knowledge of safety precautions applicable to the trade.
- Caring for and repairing facilities and equipment.
- Ability to work with the principal and building staff to correct issues as they arise.
- Responding effectively to student, staff and community needs.
- Providing excellent customer service.
- Using problem-solving techniques.
- Demonstrating effective written and oral communication skills.
- Maintaining accurate/current records and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to take instructions and exchange information.
Preferred Qualifications
- MN Second Class C boiler license preferred.
- Training or experience cleaning and maintaining a commercial facility desired.
Salary and Hours
Salary: View salary grids on Pages 11 - 13, Section 1 of the Custodial Contract Agreement.
Hours: 8 hours/day; 5 days/week 10:30pm-7:00am M-Sat.
FTE: Full-time, year round.
Bargaining Unit: Custodial.
