Job Title: Welding Work Study

Location: Marshalltown Community College, Marshalltown, IA 50158

Department: Welding

Reports to: Welding Faculty

Semester: Fall 2025

Number of Openings: 1

Rate of Pay: $10.00 per hour

Summary: The successful candidate for his position will assist the welding instructor in the welding lab and classroom. The position includes supporting activities and projects as needed, such as handling equipment, moving heavy objects, performing welds, fabricating parts, and performing minor administrative duties. This role requires the operation of tools and welding equipment to support instructional needs and ensure a safe and efficient lab environment.

Essential Job Duties

• Operating handheld power tools to complete tasks and prepare materials.
• Safely use cutting equipment to cut materials as instructed.
• Utilize a chop saw or shear to cut metal to the appropriate length.
• Operate welders to assist with project assembly and demonstrations.
• Move and arrange heavy objects and manipulated welding equipment as directed.
• Assist faculty with setting up and organizing lab activities and classroom projects.
• Ensure the welding lab and classroom remain clean, organized, and sage for students and staff.
  
  

Abilities

• Ability to handle highly confidential matters and materials with discretion.
• Must have working knowledge of computer software programs such as Word and Excel.
• Ability to learn new software (Jenzabar EX - Student Information System).
• Ability to work independently in a team-oriented environment.
• High attention to detail.
• Maintain college GPA that meets or exceeds the IVCCD Standards of Academic Progress.
  
  

Education and Experience: HS Diploma or equivalent. Basic familiarity with welding tools and equipment and willingness to learn. Ability to lift and move heavy objects. Dependability, attention to safety protocols, and a strong work ethic. Full-time student.

Certifications and Licenses: Successful completion of the welding program
