Summary: The Sr. Engineer – Welding/Metallurgist plays a critical role within the Engineering & Construction Quality Assurance group, providing technical expertise in welding and metallurgical practices across pipelines, plants, structural components, and materials. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining company welding procedures, ensuring compliance with industry codes and company standards, and supporting quality assurance efforts throughout the organization.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and approve welding procedures in accordance with ASME, API, and other industry codes.
- Review and validate vendor welding procedures and ensure compliance with company standards.
- Lead welding-related failure investigations and provide technical reports with actionable insights.
- Support construction, operations, and maintenance teams with welding expertise and risk mitigation strategies.
- Maintain and update the 3rd Party WPS Approval database.
Metallurgical Engineering
- Analyze metal properties and performance under various conditions to determine suitability for applications.
- Provide guidance on material selection, corrosion resistance, and fatigue performance.
- Conduct root cause analyses of material failures and recommend corrective actions.
- Monitor production processes and ensure materials meet quality and industry standards.
- Collaborate with engineers and designers to ensure optimal material usage in projects.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Mentor junior engineers and technical staff, fostering cross-disciplinary knowledge and growth.
- Promote continuous improvement in welding and metallurgical practices.
- Stay abreast of technological advancements and assess their impact on company operations.
- Interface with internal and external stakeholders to exchange technical insights and ensure alignment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering.
- Minimum 6-10 years of experience in pipe, fitting, and valve manufacturing/fabrication.
- Expertise in ASME Sec VIII, IX, B31.4, B31.3, B31.8, API 1104 (including Annex B), API 5L, 6D, 598, MSS, ANSI, ISO, and ANST standards.
- Strong knowledge of NDE technologies: Phased Array UT, TOFD, RFEC, digital radiography, etc.
- Proven experience in failure analysis and damage mechanisms of pressure-containing equipment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and specialized purchasing applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and negotiation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel up to 30%.
- Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work across all levels of the organization.
- Familiarity with office equipment and systems.
Experience Levels
- The Engineer level requires a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and 3-6 years of relevant job related experience.
- The Senior Engineer level requires a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and 6-10 years of relevant job related experience.
- The Staff Engineer level requires a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and 10+ years of relevant job related experience.
Working Conditions
- Normal office working conditions and field work.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
- Visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
