Responsibilities
- Responsible/SME for all aspects of vessel repair activities.
- Overseeing/conducting repairs.
- On-the-job training and mentoring of welding technicians.
- Scheduling inspectors.
- Maintaining inspection reports and vessel repair history.
- Developing and implementing repair procedures.
- Developing safety documentation for operations.
- Prioritizing repair efforts to meet schedule demands.
- Maintaining programmatic equipment readiness.
- Working with other Laboratory SMEs for weld development process.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Extensive Welding Experience: Certifications in SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW. Experience in Plasma Arc or Carbon Arc Gouging processes. Demonstrated experience in developing welding processes. Experience in reading assembly drawings and performing fabrication/assemblies.
- Shop Experience: Experience in operations and maintenance/troubleshooting of shop equipment, and general facility operations. Experience with heavy equipment such as forklifts and crane operations. Experience working in hazardous environments, e.g., high explosives areas, radiological areas, confined spaces.
- Leadership Experience: Demonstrated experience in writing and following written procedures, verbal directions including attention to detail, documenting assembly/fabrication efforts, change control, and formality of operations. Demonstrated experience in mentoring and training of personnel, planning, scheduling and overseeing shop operations.
- Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related degree and 5 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in welding HSLA-100.
- Experience in NDE methods such as mag particle, liquid penetrant, and visual inspection.
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector.
- Experience with Decontamination Operations and wearing of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
- Certified forklift operator and bridge crane operator.
Essential Job Functions
Ability to speak, read, see, sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, climb ladders, carry 10-20 pounds, lift 30+ pounds, and work in confined spaces.
Work Location
The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment
Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
